Troubleshooting Tips
1. Reboot your computer
at least once a week.
To restart your PC, click
on Start, then Shut Down (some computers may say Turn Off instead), then
Restart.
2. Problems printing your
orders?
Try printing a test page.
If a test page doesn't print, the problem is with your printer. If it does
print, then contact BloomNet Customer Service for further assistance.
To print a test page, click
on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel. Once in the Control Panel,
click on Printers. At this point you should be presented with a list of
installed Printers. Right-click on the PC's default printer, and left-click
on Properties. At the bottom of the Properties window, click Print Test
Page.
3. Problems connecting
to BloomLink®?
Try going to any other web
site (such as www.microsoft.com, or www.google.com) to check your internet
connection. If you cannot get to any web sites, check your network cable
and your modem or router.
If you are unable to reach
any websites (not just BloomLink), and your network cable or telephone
cable is securely plugged in, and your modem or router is on and appears
to be working, you may have to call your Internet Service Provider for
assistance.
Top 10 Maintenance Tips from BloomNet
Technologies
1. Run Microsoft Updates
weekly– you can set it to run automatically.
Running regular Microsoft
Updates is a strong first line of defense against security threats. You
can visit http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=3646728
for the latest updates to keep your PC current.
2. Update your Virus Definitions
and run a Virus Scan weekly– you can also set it to run automatically.
Depending on the brand of
Virus software you own, there should be a help icon on your Taskbar that
will enable you to download the latest updates. You can also contact the
manufacturer for assistance in making sure your virus protection is up
to date.
3. Do not open suspicious
emails– such as from senders you do not know, especially with
attachments.
This is the primary delivery
method of most viruses that can incapacitate your PC. Emails from parties
you do not know should be deleted from your inbox immediately.
4. Upgrade to the latest
operating system– at least Windows XP.
Windows XP gives you faster
performance, more reliability, greater flexibility, and is more widely
supported than older Windows operating systems. XP update packages are
sold in any computer store or are downloadable directly from Microsoft.com.
5. Check your available
hard drive space– keep at least 1GB free.
Open the My Computer window
by double-clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Right-click
on the (C:) Drive and left-click on Properties. The free space will be
displayed on this window.
6. Run the Windows Disk
Cleanup Tool if necessary to free up space. Add memory if you have less
than 256MB.
The Disk Cleanup tool helps
you free up space on your hard disk by searching your disk for files that
you can safely delete. To run Disk Cleanup, click Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
7. Always keep extra printer
paper and extra ink/toner cartridges on hand.
The User Manual that came
with your printer will inform you of the correct type of paper and ink/toner
cartridges that you require.
8. Back up your files–
you can copy them to a CD.
Note: This is only possible
if your PC is equipped with a CD-RW drive (also known as a CD Burner).
9. Vacuum dust from the
exterior computer vents, and use compressed air to clean out the inside
to keep the computer running cooler.
Compressed Air is available
in any store that sells computer supplies.
